Rob Defines Strong

This weekend I had planned to run 24 miles, getting back over the 20 mile mark for the first time since the Pig.  The day before, some friends decided to do the OTR 5K run/walk, so I decided that I would walk the 5K following my run.  I started out my run at 6am from Sawyer Point and ran upto the Hyde Park Kroger (6M).  I met up with a small group of people from our Fall Program and put in around 10 miles.  At this point, I’m dying.  This was the first really warm day of the season, and it had to be for a long run, of course.  I am drenched and tired, but I needed to get back downtown to meet up with my friends by 9:45 to register for the race.  I make my way down quite slowly, but in one wet piece.

We walk the 5K at a quite easy pace.  When we get to the finish line, the woman at the finish asks if I was a walker.  I said yes, and then she announced that I was the number 2 male walker!  Woo Hoo!  Actually the three of us all were in the top 5.  There were some mix ups during the awards, and I was announced at the number 4 male, but I still got a medal.  The medals were really cool Rookwood Pottery tiles made especially for the race.

When I got home, I checked my email, and there was an emai from someone in our small group.  She sent out a reminder about a discount for a local race, but at the end mentioned my plan for running.  And she finished with “Rob defines strong”  Wow, what a compliment,  I always thought that I defined crazy when it came to running, but someone else can have that title.
